I came across a cool buisness model today; Mashery. They handle API access, limits, and infrastructure for software companies that want to offer extensibility to their products and services without the headache of payment systems, limiters, and key generation.  In addition it looks like the service can scale in several directions allowing you to charge for API access, usage, overages, and more!
